WEST GORTON, MANCHESTER
PHOTOGRAPHED IN 2018
Built in around 1972, this derelict housing estate was best known for its use as the ‘Chatsworth Estate’ filming location for Shameless between 2003 and 2006. Due to problems with local youths, filming was moved in 2007 to a £250,000 purpose-built set in Wythenshawe, in the car park of a former Umbro warehouse at Unit 11B Dallimore Road on the Roundthorn Industrial Estate.
At this point, filming of interior sets also moved from The Pie Factory studios in what is now MediaCityUK to the newly acquired Wythenshawe warehouse, which was renamed from the ‘Aviator Building’ to ‘The Studio’ and is still known by that name today – despite it being a clothing warehouse once again.

The ‘replica’ estate stood for around 6-7 years and was demolished shortly after the final series of Shameless ended in 2013. By this time, demolition of the real estate had already commenced (to be replaced with new housing) and has since been completed. Photos of this original filming location are shown below.
